In the 1980s, Roger Law and Peter Fluck of Spitting Image went to Stoke-on-Trent to get some Margaret Thatcher teapots made. Now Mr Law, in the Radio 4 show Whatever Happened To The Teapots?, has returned to meet the potters to find out what has happened to their industry.
Here he tells the BBC what he discovered.

Ugliest Teapot Contest

The British Emporium in Fort Worth Texas is holding its Ugliest Teapot Contest from 1 to 4 p.m. today 27th January 2007. They're awarding prizes for "ugliest teapot" "prettiest teapot" "looniest teapot" and "ugliest mug" (the cup, not the face). Murder in a Teapot

British officials say police have cracked the murder-by-poison case of former spy Alexander Litvinenko, including the discovery of a "hot" teapot at London's Millennium Hotel with an off-the-charts reading for Polonium-210, the radioactive material used in the killing.
A senior official tells ABC News the "hot" teapot remained in use at the hotel for several weeks after Litvinenko's death before being tested in the second week of December. The official said investigators were embarrassed at the oversight.

Golly teapot racist?

A GOLLIWOG fanatic defended putting his collection of memorabilia on show amid accusations of racism.
John Molyneux of the University of Portsmouth said: "They were originally a very crude racist stereotype repeated in many children's stories at the height of imperialism when unfortunately overt racism was common in adults and children."
The 300 golly items - from badges to teapots, are on show at Fareham's council-funded Westbury Manor Museum.
Curator Tom de Wit said: "If objects on display stimulate debate, we see this as a positive thing."

Zillah Teapot is moving!

City officials hope to have the historic Teapot Dome gas station moved into town within a year.
Owners of the idle, 84-year-old teapot-shaped building accepted the city's offer of $125,000 to buy the structure and two acres it sits on just southeast of town along the Yakima Valley Highway.
The dome was built in the shape of a teapot in 1922, symbolizing the oil scandals and bribery charges that rocked Warren G. Harding's presidency a year earlier when he ordered oil reserves at Teapot Dome, Wyo., and Elk Hill, Calif., to be transferred from the Navy to the Department of Interior.
Rising fuel prices more than two years ago convinced owners Keith and Sarah Strader to close the station.
But now Zillah business owners and City Council members envision moving the dome -- which is on the National Historic Register -- to town and converting it into a tourism information center, Mayor Gary Clark said.

Dolly Dimples

"Dolly Dimples" by Alice Simpson is one of 100 teapots on exhibit at Baltimore Clayworks in Mt. Washington until February 25th. This particular teapot tells the story of a woman who loved to eat.
"I love food and can't always eat as much as I'd like," Simpson said. "(The teapot) deals with my issues of eating and dieting and my friends' issues."
Dolly Dimples headlined a freakshow act billed "The World's Prettiest Fat Girl" in the early 20th century. In the Great Depression, when many Americans struggled to put food on the table, Dolly weighed 555 pounds and boasted a 68-inch waist, 84-inch hips and a 74- inch bust in her prime. She was barely five feet tall.
The dimples in her elbows -- hence her stage name -- were one inch deep. Dolly ate four to eight eggs, one half a pound of bacon, ice cream, a loaf of bread and cafe au lait for breakfast, Simpson said in a note accompanying her teapot.
Simpson covered one side of her teapot with a painting of Dolly in a flimsy pink dress grinning coyly while lifting her skirt. Underneath is written, "Eating was her joy, the defining passion of her life."

Teapot causes fire in Williamstown!

A teapot set on top of a wood stove was the cause of the fire this morning in Williamstown, according to Williamstown fire department officials.
The teapot ran out of water and the handle caught fire, Chief Ed Eaton said. There were no injuries and no damage other than smoke in the residence. Fire-fighters spent less than an hour between 8 a.m. and 8:50 a.m. clearing out the smoke, according to Eaton.
The occupants of the residence, who were not there at the start of the fire, arrived while fire-fighters were clearing it out, Eaton said.
Barre City fire department officials said they sent a ladder out to the scene to assist.
Times Argus
