Terri's favourite

This is Terri's favourite teapot...
It's a Homer Laughlin (maker of Fiesta) Oven Serve teapot in Pumpkin glaze, circa @1935
It is very rare, in fact he has yet to find a single person who claims to have another like it! One book reports the OS teapot as "reported, not confirmed", and another lists as extremely rare. No one seems to know if they were in regular production or whether the few found are prototypes.
If anyone has any more info on this teapot let me know.

Dartington Margaret Thatcher

A very rare stunning Dartington training workshop studio pottery prototype of the famouus Margaret Thatcher teapot glazed with mottled green/blue glaze and signed by Roger Law from Spitting Image.

2006 Potter Olympic Games

Six Hocking College summer interns participated in the 2006 Potter Olympic Games. A small crowd of those passing through the museum stopped to watch the students create pieces of art under deadline.
Led by museum assistant Paul Daniel, students were given three tasks - while blind-folded, create a piece of pottery in less than four minutes, throw the tallest piece in 20 minutes and create the best teapot in less than 30 minutes. Daniel teaches the potters wheel class and a raku workshop at the museum.

3' diameter kettle!

From 1929
"There is an old saying that an Englishman can’t do without his tea. The manufacture of this huge kettle shown at left seems to bear this out, for it was made for the purpose of being able to brew large quantities of tea to accommodate the hundreds of persons who drop into a prominent tea room in London at any time of the day or night and demand a stimulant. A study in contrast is afforded in the photo in which a young woman is pouring tea from the immense kettle into an average sized tea pot. Ordinarily she would not be able to lift it so easily, but the kettle is nearly empty. It has a capacity of approximately 20 gallons and weighs 15 pounds."

They describe it as "The World's Largest Teapot Collection" {surely no longer accurate?] a permanent exhibit in the council chambers of the Trenton City Hall. Dr. Frederick C. The town also holds an annual Teapot Festival in late April.

pink chocolate teapot hat!

Ann de Gersem made this wonderful pink chocolate hat
She is a Design Academy Eindhoven MFA student who graduates today with a collection of chocolate objects she designed in collaboration with the autistic employees of a Belgian chocolate factory. De Gersem, who isn’t autistic, wondered if the way autistics think could serve as a departure from conventional design methodology. Could autistic thinking lead to a new form of authenticity in design?

Ile de Re France

Beautiful teapot spotted in shop window on Ile de Re France last week. Posted by Picasa

Maurice Cooper's collection

Maurice Cooper's passion is teapots, his collection is on display in his Antiques shop Bygone Beautys in Leura Australia
The first teapot he bought was a red enamel one which he picked up at a Lifeline shop for 50 cents.
At that same time he was also operating a stall at Paddy’s Markets every Friday and he met Ron Hooper who owned Glenbrook Cottage Antiques.
Ron had started his own teapot collection and, by the time they joined forces as business partners to begin Bygone Beautys in Leura 20 years ago, he already had 1,600 teapots.
There are now about 4,600 teapots in the collection and he is gettting close to Sue Blazye's world record of 4970 for a private collection!
