Teapot Festival brews for a month



In April, the new Atlanta Teapot Festival will celebrate teapots, tea ceremony, and related objects. Concurrent gallery exhibitions will open on April 15th at three fine craft galleries: MudFire Gallery, The Seen Gallery, and The Signature Shop and Gallery. These exhibitions will present a huge variety of teapots and related works by well known clay artists from all over the country as well as regional and local artists.
The Signature Shop & Gallery in Roswell will host "100 Teapots" from April 15th to May 8th. Opening reception will be April 15th from 4 to 8 p.m. "Tea Time" at The Seen Gallery in Oakhurst will run from April 15th to May 14th. A reception will be held April 15th from 6 to 11 p.m. "Teapots A-Go-Go 2006" will be at MudFire Gallery in Decatur April 15th to May 8th. Opening reception will be from 5 to 10 p.m. on April 15th.

MudFire Clayworks will also host a series of educational events. Mark Shapiro, a nationally-recognized studio potter and teapot master, will give a lecture on teapots on April 14th at 7 p.m. He will also lead a workshop demonstrating the construction of teapots and tea ware on April 15th and 16th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Kathy King, ceramics professor at Georgia State University, will present a slide lecture on "The Teapot Through Time" April 29th at 7 p.m. While the lectures are free, the workshop has a $125 fee.
